VOLUNTEER PARK WHOLE HOUSE REMODEL

This Volunteer Park whole-house remodel strikes the balance between respect for the home’s historic character with thoughtful modern updates, resulting in a timeless yet refreshed living space. This remodel was driven by a unique family vision: transforming a childhood home into a space for multigenerational living. The clients' son purchased the house next to his parents with the goal of creating a guest house and future residence for them. The project encompassed significant renovations, including a three-story bump-out addition, the creation of an updated ADU apartment, expanded main-floor kitchen and dining spaces, and two additional bedrooms on the upper floor.

The refinished floors, with their striking walnut inlay, frame a classically trimmed fireplace, preserving the home’s craftsman charm. The new shaker kitchen cabinets bring not only much-needed storage to the space but also bridge the divide of traditional style with modern pops seen in the hardware and lighting. The bathrooms echo this harmony, featuring traditionally themed wallpaper and intricate tile details juxtaposed with the clean, minimalist lines of updated fixtures. The exterior paint scheme again pays homage to the traditional craftsman style with a modern flair that showcases the movement into the present, creating a home to be loved for another century.
