Our clients approached us to remodel their neglected 1900s attached carriage house in the Harvard-Belmont District of Capitol Hill into a space that served a variety of functional needs. The lower-level carriage garage was reimagined as a dedicated gym with new windows, doors, cabinetry, and paint, providing a bright and energizing exercise studio with stunning views. Upstairs, the space was refinished into a cozy guest suite. By combining the existing closet and water closet, we created a modern wet room with a walk-in shower, enhancing the suite’s functionality.

Throughout the renovation, the historic charm of the carriage house was preserved. The original stairs were refinished, and the existing carriage doors were restored, blending old-world character with contemporary utility. This transformation revitalized a long-neglected structure, aligning perfectly with the clients’ goals of reclaiming and repurposing the space. The result is a seamless integration of functionality, craftsmanship, and respect for the home’s heritage, creating a gym and guest suite that feel both timeless and tailored.
