How We Work

The way we work is just as intentional as the spaces we create, because a well-run process is how we honor your investment, your vision, and your time.

This process applies at every scale. A kitchen remodel follows the same phases as a whole-home renovation — because the thinking that prevents surprises on a smaller project is the same thinking that prevents them on a larger one. The scope is different. The care isn’t.

After nearly two decades, we’ve developed an approach rooted in preparation, transparency, and genuine collaboration, meeting each project’s unique complexity with steady attention and care, from the first conversation to the final walkthrough.

We partner with architects and designers to protect the design intent through every phase of construction — bringing technical oversight, careful coordination, and clear communication to the build.

Common Questions

It depends on scope — a kitchen remodel moves through the same five phases as a whole-home renovation, just faster. The general shape:

Discovery — about 1 month. Initial conversations, project programming, feasibility, and signing the pre-construction agreement.

Development — 2 to 4 months. Design and budget advance together, so the design stays grounded in what’s buildable and what you’re prepared to spend.

Planning — 1 to 3 months. Permitting, final selections, scheduling, and pre-production. Permitting runs concurrent with planning rather than after it.

Production — 3 to 12 months or more. Construction. Size and complexity drive the range; a single bathroom sits at the low end, a whole-home renovation with structural work at the high end.

After the Build — ongoing. Warranty service, then an open door for as long as you own the home.

Discovery, Development, and Planning together make up our design and pre-construction services — roughly 3 to 8 months, since the phases often overlap. We’ll lay out a realistic timeline specific to your project once we’re through Discovery, so you’re planning around real dates rather than ranges.

Two ways. Every week, in person or virtually, you’ll meet with your project manager to walk through an agenda covering schedule, pending decisions, and overall project status — so you’re never waiting to find out where things stand.

Between those meetings, you’ll have your own login to JobTread, our client portal. Once you’re in Production, you can check schedules, decisions, photos, and billing whenever you want a look.

Every project includes a one-year warranty service period from substantial completion, and warranty requests go to the same people who built your project.

Beyond that, we’re here for the long run. Our Annual Home Services program handles ongoing maintenance for homeowners, and our Repair & Refresh team takes on the smaller projects that come up over the years — in houses, and in the restaurants, bars, and storefronts we build for.

The relationships we build matter to us as much as the work does. Many of our clients come back years later for their next project. Some bring us with them when they move, to shape a new vision in a new home. Others call when a business is ready to grow into the space next door.

Together, rather than one after the other. During Development, design and construction thinking advance side by side, so what’s being drawn stays grounded in what’s actually buildable and what your budget supports.

By the end of that phase you have a realistic plan and a budget you can trust — not a design that gets repriced later.

Design begins quickly. We typically hold a kickoff meeting three to five weeks after a pre-construction agreement is signed, and that meeting starts the design process.

Production is scheduled in parallel. When you sign that agreement, we begin securing your place on our production calendar and start working toward a tentative construction start date — your slot is fully confirmed later in the process, when you sign an intent-to-build agreement. Because design, selections, and permitting take months on their own, that calendar time usually isn’t a wait. It’s the work.

If our production calendar does run longer than your design and planning phase, we’ll identify that during Discovery so you know it going in. Setting and managing realistic expectations matters more to us than offering an optimistic date we can’t hold.
